Panel Discussions

The concept of a designer has evolved over centuries, starting with the pre-industrial craftsman who handled the entire product lifecycle, through the post industrial engineering designer, aesthetic designer, industrial designer, industrial design engineer, and so on, to the latest innovator-entrepreneur. The panel intends to shed light on the variety of types of designers being envisaged and trained at the various design schools across the world. The panel will have about 8-10 members (at the level of Deans and Heads of Design Departments/Schools or distinguished researchers in design) The panel discussion on Design Education, will
focus on the following three questions:

1. What Type(s) of designer(s) are you creating in your Institution (e.g.engineering designer, industrial/product designer, form designer,industrial design engineer, innovator-entrepreneur, etc) ?
2. What are the challenges of training them?
3. How do you (intend to) address these?

The Panel discussion on Publishing Design Research focusses on the following three
questions:

1. What are the respected, peer-reviewed venues for publishing design research?
   What are the main criteria used by reviewers for evaluating manuscripts for peer-
   reviewed publication?
2. How would young researchers improve their chances of publishing in such venues?

The panel will have about 8-10 members (at the level of Deans and Heads of Design
Departments/Schools having PhD programme in Design or distinguished researchers in
design)
